Blackwing Lair is a major raid instance in World of Warcraft Classic, situated within Blackrock Spire, and is home to Nefarian and his dragonkin army. This raid is a key source for Tier 2 set items, as well as some of the best weapons and gear available in the game. Blackwing Lair is designed for groups of 20 to 40 players and contains eight boss encounters.
Accessing Blackwing Lair
There are two methods to enter Blackwing Lair:
Attunement Completing the attunement quest provides a quick route into the raid, bypassing the longer journey through Upper Blackrock Spire.
Traditional Route Alternatively, players can navigate through Upper Blackrock Spire to reach the raid entrance.
Blackwing Lair Attunement
To begin the attunement process:
1. Kill the Scarshield Quartermaster, who can be found in the hall to the right of the entrance to Lower Blackrock Spire. This will drop Blackhand's Command, which starts the quest Blackhand's Command.
2. Clear Upper Blackrock Spire in its entirety and interact with the Orb of Ascension located behind General Drakkisath.
3. After completing the quest, players can enter Blackwing Lair by interacting with the Orb of Ascension found at the end of the hallway outside the Lower Blackrock Spire entrance.
Navigation
Blackwing Lair is located in Blackrock Mountain. Entrances to Blackrock Mountain can be found in the Burning Steppes or Searing Gorge.
Alliance :
Searing Gorge: Fly to Thorium Point, enter the Molten Span, climb the chain to the broken stone ledge, and jump to the balcony below to enter Blackrock Spire.
Burning Steppes: Fly to Morgan’s Vigil and follow the same route as from Searing Gorge.
Horde :
Searing Gorge: Fly to Kargath in the Badlands, then head to Thorium Point and follow the path.
Burning Steppes: Fly to Flame Crest and take the chain route.
Season of Discovery Changes
In the Season of Discovery, Blackwing Lair has additional mechanics. Players can speak with Victor Nefriendius inside the entrance to activate additional trials inspired by the dragonflights. Completing the raid with these trials active grants additional rewards after Nefarian is defeated. Players can disable trials at any time, but cannot add them after the raid has begun. Completing the raid with at least one active trial is required to be eligible for the additional rewards, and no additional rewards are available for activating more than three trials. Each week, a specific dragonflight trial will provide a bonus.
