Does anybody know the names of the first families who settled in Bat-Galim?
My grandfather Eliahu Haas, left Lithuania in 1895 without his wife and children,(they had 3 children,Lea yehuda and Yosef (my father.) and went to Johannesburg South -Africa to establish him self.He was a grain merchant.
His wife Lea-was a Zionist. She heard Theodor Herzl speaking about a Jewish state-and decided to move to Palestine. She embarked a ship in Turkey, that was sailing to Jaffa.(Palestine was under Turkish rule then)
There was a storm in the sea-the captain took them to Haifa instead.-they settled in the Arab shook.
Saba Eliyahu Haas joined his wife and Children .
When the Bat -Galim was started, they bought 2 lots on the beach--which later was called Hof-Hatchelt( 29,and 31)
on 31 they build their home.--the grandparents had the middle part.
my father Yesef-had 3 children Yakov,Pua and Zehava. His brother Yehuda had 2 children-Sara and Yehoshua.
The name of the street was later changed to( Ratsif Pinhas) 31 is now a HURBAH!

1. Yaakov (zilberman) KASPI
2. Pesach Bonshtein
3. David Bigger
4 .Gavrieli Avshalom
5.Haas and sons
